17 July 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos — Research by Sweetcrude Reports has revealed why Nigeria did not experience stability in power supply until August 2016 under the current administration.
Aside from the challenge of gas supply, we learnt that there were other vital reasons.
Although Nigeria generates power from hydro and is planning to invest in solar and coal, 26 (twenty-six) out of the 29 (twenty-nine) power plants in the country, generate power through the gas.
According to the investigation, 2016 was a particularly difficult year for the gas fired turbines because there were at least 16 major gas pipeline attacks with explosions, between February and May of 2016.
This is why the country did not experience stability until August when the rains came and the generating companies could rely on the Hydros, whose capacity had been upgraded.
According to what we gathered, those pipelines are gradually now being repaired as a result of secured relative peace in the Niger Delta.
