29 August 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos – West African country, Ghana, is to import liquefied natural gas, LNG, from the Central African country, Equatorial Guinea.

This is the outcome of the recent visit of Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo,  to the Gulf of Guinea petroleum producer.

During the visit, Akufo-Addo signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with Equatorial Guinea for the supply of LNG to assist in meeting Ghana’s energy demands.

The supply agreement includes the equivalent of 150 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day to Ghana.

The MoU includes the construction and operation of an LNG regasification terminal in Takoradi in Ghana’s Western Region.

Akufo-Addo said at a state dinner held in his honour by President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo: “My presence here is a consummation of this bilateral agreement, and represents a significant step towards matching Equatorial Guinea’s excess gas supply to Ghana’s ever growing demand.”
