The shutting down of the refineries affected the Nigeria’s crude oil refining capacity, as data gathered shows a drop of over 1 million barrels in the month.
According to statistics obtained from the state oil company, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, the country’s total crude processed by the three domestic refineries: Kaduna Refining & Petrochemical Company Limited, KRPC, Port-Harcourt Refining Company Limited, PHRC and Warri Refining & Petrochemical Company Limited, WRPC for the month of June 2017, was 231,836 Metric Tonnes, MT, making up 1,699,821.55 million barrels, which translated to a combined 86.64 percent production.
However, crude oil processed in May 2017 amounted to 434,419MT, 3,185,161.50bbls, translating to a combined 85.98 percent.
The differential quantity of crude refined between May and June amounted to 1,485,339.95 million barrels.
For the month of June 2017, the three refineries produced 222,585MT of finished petroleum products out of 231,836MT of crude processed at a combined capacity utilization of 12.73% compared to 23.09% combined capacity utilisation achieved in the month of May 2017.
NNPC attributed the decline in operational performance to WRPC and KRPC’s downtime during the month under review.
Only PHRC was active during the month under review as WRPC was shut-down due to power failure.
