10 November 2017, Sweetcrude, Lagos — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has inaugurated its consumer forum offices in Calabar and Uyo.

In a series of tweets on social media platform, Twitter via its official handle, @NERCNG, the commission hinted that the Calabar forum office was opened for operation on Wednesday, while that of Uyo took place today.

According to NERC, the forums will afford electricity consumers opportunities to have their complaints about services rendered by the Electricity Distribution Companies, DisCos, redressed.

It further said the purpose for the centres is to ensure that electricity consumers are “fairly treated”.

The NERC Forum is a body set up by the commission in the exercise of its powers under the EPSR Act 2005 to entertain appeals from decisions of Customer Complaints Unit, CCU of Electricity Distribution Companies, DisCos.

Customers who are not satisfied with the resolution of the complaints by CCUs or experience delay in the resolution of complaints can further take the complaint to the forum for resolution.

The Forum is established in the operational area of the DisCos.

Membership of the forum include: one representative of industrial customers to be nominated by the Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria, MAN, one representative of commercial customers to be nominated by the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agriculture, one representative of household customers to be nominated by the Consumer Protection Council, CPC, one representative of an Non Governmental Organisation, NGO based in the distribution licensee’s operating area nominated by the commission, and one nominee based in the distribution licensee’s operating area who has an electrical engineering background nominated by the commission.
