19 June 2018, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt — The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, has charged depot owners to place a premium on standard operating procedures in their depots at all times.
DPR, which is a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, said this ahead of the maiden edition of annual general Meeting of DPR and downstream sector operators in the zone.
Speaking, the Port Harcourt Zonal Comptroller of DPR, Dr. Frank Briggs, explained that the charge was imperative in order to ensure that hazards which may occur during operations are brought under control.
Briggs said the meeting would focus on educating dealers to observe and comply fully with safety and environmental laws in their operations.
He added that every installation in the petroleum sector ought to adhere to standard operating procedures.
“The Primary objective is to refocus dealers and operators in the Downstream sectors on the need to comply fully with relevant safety and environmental laws and regulations as enshrined in the petroleum Acts and its various amendments.
“The meeting will also look at how to forestall the dangers posed by unwholesome practices and non-compliance to statutory provisions with respect to health, safety and environment in the depots filling stations and LPG outlets.”
