    South Korea’s June LNG imports rise YoY

    17 July 2018, News Wires — Liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports into South Korea rose 8.8 percent in June year-on-year, according to the customs data, LNG World News reports.

    The country received 3.76 million tonnes of LNG last month, as compared to 3.45 million tonnes in the corresponding month the year before.

    The data shows that South Korea paid an average of $9.80 per mmBtu for LNG last month. This compares to $7.85 per mmBtu in June last year.

    Qatar, the world’s top LNG exporter, remained the dominant source of South Korean imports with 1.15 million tonnes of the chilled fuel imported from Qatar last month.

    Australia was the second-largest LNG supplier to Korea in June with 625,033 mt.

    The remaining volumes imported into South Korea were sourced from Oman, Indonesia, Malaysia, USA, Russia, Peru, Brunei, Nigeria and Papua New Guinea.

    In the January-June period, South Korea imported 22.7 million tonnes of LNG, as compared to 19.6 million tonnes in the same period last year.
