23 July 2018, Sweetcrude, Warri, Delta State — The war between Heritage Energy Services Limited and loyalists of Morris Idiovwa, Chairman of OML 30 Community Development Board, CBD, appears to be unending as hundreds of youths protested in Ughelli North local government area.
The youths insisted that Morris should not be relieved of the surveillance contract job it is currently handling, adding that said since Morris took over the job he had recruited over five hundred youths from the 111 host communities of OML 30, adding that he had been consistent with their payment.
They said removing Morris would trigger another round of crisis in the communities. The protesters marched to the Chairman Ughelli North local government area, Mr. Adode Godwin and the king of Ughelli kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Wilson Ojakovo, Oharisi III, Ovie of Ughelli kingdom where they warned of the likely consequence of removing Morris as the surveillance contractor.
The monarch who is also the Chairman of OML 30 Traditional rulers and the Chairman of the local government, Mr. Adobe in their separate comments hailed the maturity and peaceful conduct of the protesters, promising to inform the state government and other key stakeholders of their stand.
Some of the placards the protesters carried had inscriptions as Heritage drop divide and rule in our communities, We don’t want a crisis in OML 30 communities, Heritage Energy doesn’t promote crisis in our communities.”
Some youths allegedly sponsored against Mr. Idiovwa had also gone round Ughelli calling for the sack of Mr. Idiovwa, alleging that he was not carrying them along. The youths also protested to the Palace of the Ovie of Ughelli where the monarch said he would meet with stakeholders to investigate their allegations. They had also marched to the Ughelli North local government council were they were granted audience by the council Chairman Mr. Adode who also assured that he would communicate their stand to the necessary quarters.
The youths also alleged that the tenure of Idiovwa led CBD had expired, calling for a fresh board.
