22 December 2018, News Wires — Bulgaria’s gas network operator Bulgartransgaz on Friday launched a 2.28 billion lev ($1.33 billion) tender to build a 484 km gas pipeline linking its border with Turkey with Serbia, pending the outcome of the open season bids for capacity.
Bids from interested contractors are due by Feb. 15 next year, but a contract will only be enforced if shippers book enough capacity to make the pipeline viable, Bulgratransgaz Chief Executive Vladimir Malinov said.
The pipeline is expected to carry mainly Russian gas from the TurkStream gas pipeline to Serbia, Hungary and Austria and should be built by 2020. It is also seen as part of Bulgaria’s efforts to set up a regional gas hub. ($1 = 1.7136 leva).
