Abuja — The Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Jens-Petter Kjemprud, has advised the country to use its oil and gas resources to improve electricity in the country.

He gave the advice at the Nigerian Oil and Gas, NOG, Conference, which held at the Federal Capital, Abuja, last week.

Kjemprud also said Norway will continue to work with Nigeria and attract Norwegian investment to Nigeria through the Nigeria-Norwegian chamber of commerce.

“Nigeria has to start the process from oil and gas to electricity. Norway has started the process, we have electricity production with 99 percent hydrocarbon and we produce 36MW for 5 million people while Nigeria produces between 5000MW and 7000MW for 200 million people.

“Nigeria must take international measures to stop environmental degradation, inspect oil theft. Gas flaring has to be stopped and taken advantage of,” the Norwegian ambassador said.

This year’s NOG, which held from 1st – 4th of July at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, was the 18th edition of the annual event. It featured seminars, conferences and exhibitions.

The NOG is supported by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, and brings together oil and gas industry stakeholders in Nigeria with the aim to discuss business opportunities and create partnerships.
