Lagos — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has directed its non-essential staff to work from home for the next two weeks following the increasing cases of the CoVID19 pandemic outbreak in Nigeria.

In a memo issued by the Commission on Monday, it said it will also issue guidelines to all operators in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI on the safety and protection of workers and protocols on guaranteeing supply by ensuring that there are minimal disruptions to end-use customers during the CoVID19 shutdown across the country.

While its non-essential staff have been directed to work from home for the next two weeks, its essential staff (IT units, registry, and others nominated) will continue working from the office, according to the memo.

“All essential staff whose physical presence is required in the Commission are required to comply with strict personal hygiene and social distancing measures prescribed by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control, NCDC”, it said.

“The Commission advises members of the pubic that are conducting business with the Commission to refrain from visiting our offices during this period but contact us through other channels of communication”.

The Commission also put a hold on hearings at its forum offices, adding that all customer complaints should be lodged to the forum offices through other channels of communication.

“No one shall be granted access to the building without being subjected to the screening prescribed by the NCDC”, it said.
