Port Harcourt Disco says energy thieves to face justice

Lagos — The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution, PHED, says energy thieves and related offenders in its franchise areas would be made to face justice.

The company, which said it last lost huge revenue due to the activities of oil thieves and related offenders, stated that it had put measures in place to achieve this.

PHED’s franchise covers four states – Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

Disclosing this in Port Harcourt, the managing director, PHED, Henry Ajagbawa, said the company was losing over N2.5 billion monthly as a result of bypassing of meters by electricity consumers.

Noting that the illegal practice was a threat to the sustainability of the company, Ajagbawa warned the offenders to desist from the act.

“We are determined to eradicate energy theft from the system and that is why we are collaborating with the security agencies to ensure that no stone is left unturned to ensure offenders face the full wrath of the law.

“Any customer caught bypassing or tampering with our meter will not only be named and shamed but shall face the full weight of the law and thereafter made to pay for loss of revenue arising from the unwholesome act,” he said.
