Lagos — A middle-aged man, Stephen Akerele, on Monday appeared before an Epe Magistrates Court in Lagos State on a two count charge for impersonating the Chairman, Board of Directors, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), Mr. Charles Momoh.
In a statement, the General Manager, Corporate Communications, EKEDC, Mr. Godwin Idemudia, revealed that Akerele whose address was not provided is facing a two count charge of impersonation to which he pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum, gainfully employed in Lagos State with evidence of tax payment and verifiable house and office addresses, one of which must be a relative. He added that the Court ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the perfection of his bail conditions.
Idemudia described the act as unlawful, improper and deceitful, as the accused put a call through to one of their staff in charge of a customer’s care area, thereby claiming to be the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Company and directed him to reconnect an already disconnected customer.
He averred that the Company is committed to ensuring that perpetrators of unlawful acts are brought to book, as this will serve as deterrent to others.
“We advised customers and the entire public to stay off acts that could put them in contravention of law and order,” he said.
