Port Harcourt — Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has urged oil multinationals operating in the Niger Delta region to identify with their host communities, to curb crisis and restiveness in their area of operations.
The governor, particularly urged companies and other investors doing business in Rivers State to always comply with the local content law, in order to ensure cordial relationship with their host communities.
Wike who spoke recently, at the inauguration of the headoffice of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited in Port Harcourt, said those propagating the conspiracy theory that the Niger Delta was unsafe are the real enemies of the oil rich region.
“Oil and gas companies operating in the Niger Delta region should always be mindful to implement the local content policy in order to foster cordial relationship with their host communities.
“I want to advise those who are doing business in Rivers State to identify with your host communities.
“If you identify with your host communities , there will be no crisis. The only time you see crisis is when you reneged from the MoU you have with your host communities or refused to have an MoU with them.”
The governor also commended the management of NLNG over what he described as a robust relationship which the gas multinational has with her host community, Bonny Kingdom.
He expressed optimism that other oil multinationals will relocate to Niger Delta region in no distant time, following the precedent set by NLNG.
