Lagos — The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, said it had amended the Meter Asset Provider, MAP, regulation.
The Commission revealed this while inviting stakeholders in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI, and interested public to a hearing on the MAP and National Mass Metering Regulations, NMMR.
According to the commission, the MAP regulation was amended on August 9 when it issued the MAP and NMMR in pursuant to section 96 of Electric Power Sector Reform Act, EPSRA.
The regulations were issued after wide stakeholder consultations to align metering of end-use customers through the MAP initiative with the National Mass Metering programme, NMMP.
The NMMP is the Federal Government’s policy intervention in metering with the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in recognition that the accelerated closure of the metering gap is a key requirement for improving customer satisfaction and ensuring the financial sustainability of NESI.
The Commission said it plans to attract private sector investment in the provision of meters and metering services thereby increasing local manufacturing capacity, increasing local capacity in the provision of value-added services, and employment opportunities.
NERC said the meeting would discuss the performance of MAPs under the old metering framework would be held, discuss the core principles behind NMMP, apprise members of the public on the Regulations, and discuss the implementation of the Regulations.
The stakeholder forum is scheduled for September 16 in Lagos.
