Port Harcourt — Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, at the weekend commended the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, for capacity building and manpower improvement.
Governor Udom said this at the commissioning and handover ceremony of the NCDMB sponsored renovation, upgrade and equipping of the ultra-modern woodwork and carpentry workshop at Government Technical College, Abak, Akwa Ibom State.
The governor represented by Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government, Emmanuel Ekuwem, specifically acknowledged the passion expressed by the Executive Secretary Engr. Simbi Wabote, in promoting and encouraging human capital development.
He advised the students to develop useful skills to enable them to become employed and also employers of labour, while charging the staff and students to protect the workshop and equipments for it to be useful to the college and the state.
Responding, the Executive Secretary, NCDMB, Engr Simbi Wabote, expressed his appreciation to the Minister of State for Petroleum for his continuous support towards programs and activities of the Board.
Wabote also commended the Akwa Ibom state government under the leadership of His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel for the all round developmental strides being enjoyed in the state.
He enjoined the students to seize the opportunity and become the craftsmen and skilled set which the people of Akwa Ibom are known for, and continue to provide such services locally and even internationally.
“The NCDMB is not an intervention agency but a regulator who further branches into capacity building and manpower improvement.”
“I appreciate the staff, students and all stakeholders for making this project conceived and embarked upon by the Board, a reality.”
Earlier, the Principal, Government Technical College, Abak, Elder Friday Emmanson Udoka, in his goodwill message, disclosed that the staff and students are overwhelmed by the facility and equipment provided by NCDMB.
Udoka pointed out that the equipments will not only enhance teaching and learning but also serve as an opportunity for students to be self employed after graduation from the college.
He thanked the Board for the project and promised its sustenance, pledging to make maximum use of the equipments to improve knowledge of the students and staff.
“It is our hope that the students themselves will be employers of labour afterwards.” he added.
Also, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Technical Education Board, Godwin Udom, appreciated the Board for the giant feat and also for marking the commissioning and hand over possible.
Udom noted that the workshop will aid students in acquiring knowledge, skills and modern techniques in furniture making.
