Lagos — The leadership of the National Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO, has debunked claims by the management of the Truck Transit Park, TTP, that the Apapa road gridlock has been eased off and some level of sanity has returned to the port corridor.

Recall that the Managing Director of the TTP, Mr. Jama Onwubariri, was on Television programme over the weekend saying that the intervention of the truck management company has, to a large extent, eased traffic along the port corridor.

In a sharp reaction, the Chairman of the Lagos Task Force of NARTO, Comrade Hassan Adekoya, said the claims were false as trucks still park on the port access roads and have their call up tickets processed right on the roads without going into any truck park.

Adekoya also said that there has been an increase in the rate of extortion adding that two officials of the Lagos State Government are heavily involved in the extortion racket.

He disclosed that N20,000 is being collected from truck drivers at the Mr. Biggs Bus Stop adding that the money is collected for a top Lagos government official.

He explained that drivers and truck owners are suffering because of the high level of extortion.
