    OML130 partners hand over school science laboratory in Arondizuogu

    Lagos – The Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited NNPCL, TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, operator of OML 130 and partners have inaugurated and handed over a school science laboratory to National High School, Arondizuogu in Imo State.

    The science laboratory is designed to advance the teaching and knowledge of science in secondary schools in Imo State. The building which sits on 1,1128m2 land houses 5 laboratories for Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, and Home Economics study with solar-powered support and a 60KVA soundproof backup generator.

    There is provision for laboratory apparatus suitable for learning and experiments with safety equipment and system installed. A borehole system with two water tanks and 8 lavatories is also attached to the complex.

    Mr. Bala Wunti, the Chief Upstream Investment Officer of the NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services was represented by Mr. Momodu Asemokhai the Manager External Affairs, disclosed this at the inauguration and handover ceremony of the laboratory on Wednesday in Arondizuogu, Ideato North local government area of Imo State.

    Mr. Wunti said that the project, which was implemented by NNPC Limited, TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, operator of OML 130 and partners SAPETRO & CNOOC & PRIME 130 is geared towards mitigating the various identified gaps in the society.

    “These projects were borne out of the need to mitigate the various identified gaps in line with the relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We will continue to consistently champion the implementation of Sustainable Community Development projects that will positively impact the lives of the citizens of this Country.”

    In his remarks, The Managing Director and Chief Executive, TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited, Mr. Mike Sangster, who was represented by Mr. George Oguachuba, Executive Director, People and Country Service explained that the project is a purpose-built and fully equipped science laboratory complex for the teaching of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, and Home Economics subjects.

    “The project we are commissioning today is a purpose-built, furnished, and fully equipped science laboratory complex providing for the teaching of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, and Home Economics. The building structure consists of 5 laboratories. Each Laboratory is fully equipped with the necessary equipment for practical learning and experimentation in the 5 subjects.

    Sangster added that his company commenced a robust plan to deploy CSR infrastructure development across the country in 2016 and that this resulted in a strategy to deliver 84 infrastructure projects across the six geo-political zones of Nigeria, out of which 54 have been completed and inaugurated.

    “Of the 84 infrastructure projects, 54 have already been completed and commissioned from the earlier three phases, and a total of 8 have now been completed and are currently being commissioned this November.”

    Mrs. Charity U. Aguzie, the Principal of National High School, Arondizuogu, gave kudos to TotalEnergies, NNPC Limited and its partners for their contribution to the progress of their community and the positive impact created for communities in need.

    “I give kudos to TotalEnergies, NNPC Limited and others for their support of the school as they encourage the teachers and students to excel in studies and learning and I also appeal to the community to provide security for the safeguarding of the school property and laboratory project.”
