    – Tasks security agencies on protection of electricity assets, personnel

    Mkpoikana Udoma

Port Harcourt — The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Plc, Dr Benson Uwheru has urged the judiciary to assign a dedicated court to handle legal issues in the power sector.

Uwheru who made the appeal during a courtesy call on the Chief Judge of Cross River State, Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme, maintained that the request if granted would ensure that PHED cases are given the speedy attention that they require.

PHED Head, Corporate Communications, Olubukola Ilevbare said Uwheru was on a visit to Calabar Business Region, one of the franchise states of the Port Harcourt Disco, where he also met with the management of Bao Yoa Iron & Steel company, the Commander of 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General E.I Okoro; as well as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6, Jonathan Toworu.

Ilevbare said the tour was imperative to engage the stakeholders to strengthen the existing relationship between them and the company, especially since Bao Yoa Iron & Steel company was PHED’s highest consumer of energy in the maximum demand category in the region.

The statement quoted the PHED boss reminding the Assitant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6, Jonathan Toworu, that both the company and the Police Force were bound by a common interest which is the stake of the federal government in the Disco, as he urged the police command to settle their unpaid bills to the Disco.

He also appealed to the Commander of 13 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General E.I Okoro to assist in protecting its personnel and assets to enable staff of PHED carry out their duties without intimidation.
