    26 plants generate 3,180.45GWh of electricity in January 2024

    Port Harcourt — 26 grid-connected electricity generation plants across the country generated a total of 3,180.45GWh of electricity in the month of January 2024, a 3.94percent decline from 3,310.95GWh generated in December 2023, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has said.

    According to NERC, these 26 grid-connected power plants generated a total of 4,274.80MWh per hour in the month under review, even when they have an installed capacity of generating 12,199MW.

    Data released by NERC on the operational performance of power plants indicated that the largest ppwer producers which include Egbin ST, Delta GS, Kanji, Afam VI, Odukpani, Shiroro, Jebba, Okpai, Azura IPP and Geregu plants generated 2,430GWh, which represents 80percent of the energy generated in January 2024.

    Afam IV -V, Sapele ST, Olorunsogo NIPP, Omotosho NIPP, Sapele GT NIPP, Ihovbor NIPP, Geregu NIPP, Omotosho, Olorunsogo, Ibom Power, River NIPP, Omoku, Trans Amadi, Paras, Taopex Energy and Darin Kawa generated a total of 743.49GWh being 20percent of energy generated during the period.

    Egbin ST and kanji plants generated the highest power of 360GWh and 318GWh, while Azura IPP trailed behind with 301GWh in January 2024, while Ihovbor NIPP and Taopex Energy generated the least power of 7.10GWh and 8.38GWh, from their installed capacity of 450MW and 60MW respectively.

    NERC further disclosed that 4,459.41GWh is the average available capacity from these 26 power plants.
