Port Harcourt — Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has marked his 60th birthday with gratitude, reflecting on his journey from an Almajiri (Tsangaya) school pupil to leading Africa’s largest energy company.

In a statement released to commemorate the milestone, Kyari expressed profound appreciation to Allah for sparing his life and to Nigeria for the opportunities that propelled him to the pinnacle of his career.

He also thanked Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for trusting him to serve as the last Group Managing Director, GMD of the NNPC and the pioneer CEO of NNPC Limited.

“Reflecting on my journey, from humble beginnings in an Almajiri school to leading this great organization, is a testament to Allah’s grace and the opportunities provided by this nation,” Kyari said.

The NNPCL boss described his life as a mix of challenges and triumphs, expressing gratitude to those who have supported him along the way, including his family, friends, colleagues, and teachers.

“This milestone reminds me of the good and bad times, travails and triumphs, pains and happiness, and failures and successes I’ve encountered. None of this would have been possible without the sufficiency of Allah and the unconditional support of so many,” he said.

He acknowledged the personal sacrifices his family endured during his years of public service and pledged to serve with even greater conviction. Kyari also sought forgiveness from anyone he might have hurt unintentionally.

As the pioneer CEO of NNPCL, Kyari has played a key role in transforming the organization into a fully commercial entity, positioning it as a leading force in Africa’s energy sector.

“This is a turning point for me. I remain committed to serving this nation and the common good with even greater dedication.”
