Lagos — The Authority Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, Engr. Saidu Mohammed, on Wednesday led a delegation to Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals Limited, IEPL, in Rivers State to assess firsthand the operational status, infrastructure availability and performance of critical assets within the midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
The visit forms part of the Authority’s strategic engagement with its licensees aimed at strengthening regulatory oversight, obtaining real-time operational insights and enhancing alignment with stakeholders critical to Nigeria’s energy and industrial value chain.
Speaking during the visit, Engr. Mohammed reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to proactive engagement and collaborative regulation.
“I intentionally chose Indorama as my first stop on this tour because I believe it is one of Nigeria’s top success stories in the midstream petroleum sector and vital to energy security, industrial growth and economic development,” said Engr. Mohammed.
Welcoming the delegation, the Managing Director of IEPL, Mr. Munish Jindal, provided an overview of the company’s operations and long-term growth plans.
He highlighted Indorama’s position as a leading integrated petrochemical and fertilizer producer, supplying critical inputs for domestic manufacturing, agriculture and export markets.
“Indorama Eleme Petrochemicals remains committed to operational excellence, safety and sustained investment in Nigeria. Our long-term expansion strategy is focused on increasing capacity, strengthening infrastructure and supporting national economic development,” Mr. Jindal stated.
He further noted the company’s adherence to international environmental, health and safety standards, as well as ongoing investments aimed at improving efficiency and resilience across its operations.
During the engagement, the NMDPRA delegation conducted inspections of key facilities within the complex and held technical briefings with Indorama’s management team covering operational efficiency, safety systems, infrastructure integrity and maintenance practices.
The visit provided a platform for constructive dialogue on regulatory expectations, operational challenges and opportunities to further enhance alignment between the Authority and Indorama in support of a resilient, efficient and sustainable midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
