Houston — North Dakota’s oil production was estimated to be down by between 125,000 barrels per day (bpd) and 150,000 bpd due to extreme cold weather and related operational challenges, the state’s pipeline authority said on Monday.

North Dakota is the third-largest oil-producing state in the country and the impacted production represents about 12% of the region’s 1.1 million bpd of oil output, based on data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
Associated wellhead natural gas production was estimated to be down by about 350 million cubic feet per day (mcfpd) to 430 mcfpd, or about 11% of the state’s natural gas output.
Temperatures in the region will warm up in the coming days and the majority of lost production is expected to be back online over the next four to seven days, said Justin Kringstad, Director of North Dakota Pipeline Authority.
