27 March 2017, Sweetcrude, Abuja – The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, has decried what it termed an increasing spate of “unwarranted, vicious, inhuman and criminal.attacks on its field workers”.
It said in a statement that it has written to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, asking for investigation into alleged poor handling of assaults on the lives of its field workers by police officers in the Kubwa area of Abuja.
According to the company, assaults on its staff by the police with guns and the public with dangerous weapons were not necessary because of the existence of mechanisms put in place by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, to redress alleged wrongs in the electricity industry, including the issue of poor service delivery.
The power distribution company also petitioned the Divisional Police Officer of Kubwa, Mr. Ayobami Surajudeen, on the matter.
