03 January 2014, News Wires – West Africa-focused African Petroleum has appointed a new chief executive.
The company revealed on Monday that Karl Thompson had stepped down from the role on 1 February and had been replaced by Stuart Lake.
Lake has more than 27 years in the oil and gas industry and which included a 19 year stint with Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell where he served as vice president exploration for Shell Russia.
Most recently he worked for Hess as the US company’s vice president of exploration and also spent a four-year period with Apache.
African Petroleum said Lake was “a proven oil finder” having maintained an 85% geological success rate in all three companies, based on the drilling of more than 300 wells in 11 countries.
“The company recognises the strategic importance of Stuart’s experience and expertise,” African Petroleum chairman Charles Matthews said.
“His track record in finding oil globally and his recent success in nearby Ghana with seven deep water discoveries in a row for Hess, will be pivotal to our success during the next exciting phase of
African Petroleum’s development.”
