12 October 2011, Sweetcrude, Washington, D.C. – The American Gas Association (AGA) is proud to announce that their bid was selected to hold the Presidency of the International Gas Union (IGU) from 2015-2018, culminating in hosting the 27th World Gas Conference (WGC2018) in Washington, D.C. in June 2018.

In an Olympic-style vote with Qatar and the Republic of Korea as formidable competition, AGA won the support of the IGU membership, representing some 78 countries worldwide. The U.S. and AGA are uniquely positioned to lead and serve IGU and the global gas industry as we are strategically aligned to continue to promote the vision of natural gas as the long-term foundation of an affordable and lower carbon energy supply.

The North American team for the 2015-2018 triennium includes: President of IGU, David Carroll, president and CEO, Gas Technology Institute; Chairman of WGC2018 National Organizing Committee Dave McCurdy, president and CEO, AGA; Chairman of IGU Coordination Committee Mel Ydreos, vice president of marketing and customer care, Union Gas Ltd, a Spectra energy company; and IGU and WGC2018 Coordinator Jay Copan, senior advisor, AGA.

“Given the leading role natural gas is and will be playing in the U.S. to meet our own energy needs, AGA is poised to advance the IGU vision of positioning natural gas on the international stage as the fuel that will lay the foundation for a clean and efficient energy future,” said Dave McCurdy.

“As a gas producing and consuming nation, and a leader in technological innovation I am excited to have the opportunity to lead alongside my esteemed team and to build upon the 80-year tradition of IGU. This is our moment to develop and advance the global natural gas industry legacy and its vision for the future,” said David Carroll.

“AGA is particularly looking forward to marking its 100th anniversary milestone by hosting the WGC2018 in Washington, DC at the end of our IGU presidency tenure,” said McCurdy.

“The WGC2018 will serve as a platform to showcase the production, infrastructure and end-use technologies that play a pivotal role in the responsible development of reliable and stable natural gas in the U.S. and around the world,” McCurdy said.
