Port Harcourt — Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has expressed displeasure over what they described as continued refusal of the Managing Director of PHEDC, to appear before its Committee on Public Utilities and Rural Development.
To this end, the House has maintained that it will exhaust all possible means of peaceful resolution within the law before issuing a warrant of arrest.
Chairman, House Committee on Rural Development and Public Utilities, Dr Usoro Akpanusoh, expressed displeasure over nonchalant attitude of the Managing Director of PHEDC, in honouring the committee’s invitation for four consecutive time.
Worried by the continuous dwindling power situation and exploitation of its consumers in the state, the Committee maintained that the House would not fold its arms while residents of the state are being shortchanged.
Also speaking, the House Leader, Mr Udo Kierian-Akpan, while regretting the behaviour of the PHEDC boss, describing it as disrespect to the State, maintained that the absence of the PHEDC Managing Director was unacceptable.
Kierian-Akpan explained that the PHEDC MD’s refusal to appear before the Committee for the fourth time without any communication with the Committee was disrespectful.
He urged the management of PHEDC to do the needful and improve their services to reciprocate the huge investment of the state government in the company.
The PHEDC boss was given until 24th of August, 2020 to appear before the Committee.
The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly also promised to continue dialogue with the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHEDC, in order to ensure that the people of the state enjoy constant power supply and value for money expended on power infrastructure.
