01 July 2013, News Wires – Norway’s Aker Solutions has been awarded a contract worth up to $440 million to deliver the subsea production system for an oilfield development in the UK North Sea.
Aker withheld the name of the field and the operator in Monday’s announcement, saying only that it was currently one of the largest projects currently under development in the UK North Sea.
The contract, which is Aker’s single-largest subsea contract ever won in the UK, covers the delivery of 25 subsea trees and six template manifolds and also covers associated controls, wellheads and tie-in equipment for the unnamed field.
Aker noted that the order included subsea technologies that were new to the UK, including manifolds and trees that allow for the use of hydraulically submersible pumps to improve oil recovery and flow assurance.
Central management, engineering and procurement on the contract will be handled by Aker’s main office at Fornebu in Norway
The subsea trees will be manufactured at Aker’s Tranby facility, outside of Oslo, while its offshore yard in Egersund on the west coast of Norway will produce the manifolds and and carry system integration testing.
The company’s subsea operations in Aberdeen will manufacture the control systems and wellheads and also provide lifecycle-support services.
First deliveries for the project are expected to take place during the first half of next year.
