Port Harcourt — The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport has announced plans to collaborate with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, to boost the state’s maritime economy.

Speaking in Uyo, Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Ini Ememobong, emphasized the importance of fostering strategic partnerships to maximise the state’s rich maritime resources.

“Our ministry is ready to work closely with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in a way that ensures mutual benefits. We must go beyond routine engagements and explore innovative ideas that will drive sustainable and profitable maritime development for Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large,” he said.

Earlier, the South-South Zonal Director of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mrs. Ify Okolue, commended Governor Umo Eno for his commitment to accelerating development in the state.

Okolue highlighted the Council’s crucial role in ensuring efficiency at ports while protecting the interests of Nigerian shippers, including importers and exporters.
“The Nigerian Shippers’ Council, as a key agency under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, is committed to facilitating trade and improving port efficiency. Akwa Ibom’s decision to develop its marine economy is a significant step, and we are pleased to support this vision.”
She further announced that the Uyo area office of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, which had been closed for some time, would soon be reopened to strengthen maritime operations in the state.
“We are embarking on sensitization efforts to create awareness among stakeholders ahead of the office’s reopening and commissioning,” Okolue revealed.
