18 April 2013, Nairobi – US independent, Anadarko Petroleum, and French oil giant, Total, have hit non-commercial oil with their Kubwa deep-water wildcat off Kenya.
The US company holds a 50% operatorship on oil block L-07, where search was conducted. Total and PTT Exploration hold the balance of 40% andon 10% respectively.
Anadarko Petroleum’s Bob Daniels said the explorer was nonetheless encouraged to see that “mudlog and well-site evaluation of core data indicates the presence of a working petroleum system with reservoir-quality sands.
“The Kubwa well tested multiple play concepts and provided useful data regarding the prospectivity of our six-million-acre position offshore Kenya”.
He stated that the rig would now move south to block L-11B to drill another wildcat, Kiboko.
Ahead of the start of the two-well programme in Kenya last November, the country’s energy secretary Patrick Nyoike was quoted as saying “I guess next year…I’ll be talking about billions of barrels discovered in Kenya”.
