14 June 2013, Lagos – Banner Energy Limited, in partnership with Oando Plc and Lagos State government, has launched a Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG, (or cooking gas) scheme in Lagos.
The initiative is for the purpose of reducing the carbon emissions from the use of firewood and kerosene at homes. The launch, which was held in Lagos during the week, is aimed at keeping the environment clean and safer.
According to the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Nuhu Yakubu, gas is in abundance in Nigeria and must be utilised for the benefit of the people.
He pointed out that the consumption of bad fuel has done more harm than good to Nigerians, harping that there is need for attitudinal change at domestic level in using gas for cooking.
Banner Energy Limited is an E&P Business Development company whose service scope also covers gas infrastructure development, equipment design, procurement and installation and gas products marketing. It offers a wide range of carefully selected and specialised inter related services.
Yakubu stated that as the gas revolution continues in Lagos, which would soon spread to other parts of the country, using gas would soon be in every home; having taken into consideration its economic and environmental advantage. He explained that kerosene usage, which is most common, is even more expensive than gas.
While explaining that Liquefied Petroleum Gas is more affordable, he pointed out that Banner Energy Limited is partnering the Lagos State Government to showcase its capacity in the gas sector. ‘We have more than 40 gas locations across the country; Banner Energy has the capacity to supply as many gas as demanded by Lagos State’ he added.
He stated that the company is moving to other parts of the country, saying its operation bases at Edo, Kano, Delta, Kaduna, Benue and Abuja have been serving customers satisfactorily. He added that the company, as at present, has the largest gas retail outlets in the country.
On the common fear that using gas at home is dangerous, he stated that LPG is safer, wondering how many gas fire incidents have been reported like kerosene explosion, and adding that using LPG for car saves money as owner would only have to service it once in a year since using it is usually devoid carbon emission inherence in fuel usage.
While speaking on the capacity of the company, Banner Energy’s Head of Operation, Mr. Ade Makinde, said the company is coming out with new technology that would be in global compliance with what is obtainable at the global level, adding that it is partnering the Lagos state government on the basis of its leadership in terms of innovations in the country. He pointed out that with the new initiative, environment would be safer for people as the use of LPG constitutes no harm in any way.
Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Taofiq Ajibade, noted that the significance of the gas revolution in Lagos is to rescue the environment and lives. He pointed out that what the Lagos state government has been trying to do is sensitise the people to embrace gas usage.
The Managing Director of Oando Marketing Plc, Mr. Yomi Awobokun, said gas initiative is a revolutionary process to break into the lower class that had hitherto been thinking that it does not fit into the class of those that can use gas at home. Against the impression, he clarified that Oando Plc in partnership with Banners Energy Limited and Lagos State Government, would be making the gas available at reasonable prices that would be accessible and affordable by all.
