Nigeria's mining industry03 April 2014, Bauchi – Bauchi State governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda has ordered the arrest of three Chinese expatriates as well as the immediate closure of their firm over illegal mining activities that have caused health hazards to communities in Toro Local Government Area of the state.

Yuguda gave the order yesterday when he paid an unscheduled visit to the company.

He said the Chinese firm also failed to comply with all the requirements as demanded by the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals before starting their mining activities.

He said: “They did not compensate the communities, neither did they make any attempt to relocate the communities before commencing their mining activities. The mining in the area has caused health hazards to both human beings and animals in the area.”
