    Borno set to actualise renewable energy

    02 March 2012, Sweetcrude, MAIDUGURI – The Deputy-Governor of Borno, Mr Zanna Mustapha, says the state will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Environment to actualise and achieve renewable energy project.

    Mustapha said this in Abuja on Thursday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after a meeting with the National Coordinator, Renewable Energy, Federal Ministry of Environment, Mrs Bahijahtu Abubakar.

    However, Abubakar noted that all the comments at the meeting were encouraging, adding that she was excited at the new phase of the development in Borno.

    She listed the frontline states in renewable energy development in the country, including Kaduna and Cross River, and expressed optimism that other states would soon key in to the renewable energy development.

    Also speaking, Mr Segun Adadu, Project Manager, Bank of Industry, described the Borno project as laudable and innovative, adding that it showed the foresight of the state government.

    Adadu said the project, if fully developed, would create employment, energy to power businesses in the state.

    Mr Hassan Mustapha, the State Commissioner for Environment, told NAN that the energy development project would help to control the problem of desert encroachment.

    The Commissioner said the development of renewable energy in the state would reduce the rate indiscriminate felling of trees.
