12 June 2015, News Wires – BP has resumed production at its West Azeri platform in the Caspian Sea, off Azerbaijan, after completing ahead of schedule planned maintenance work, according to a report.
Operations were suspended on 21 May for a 22 day of maintenance, but the work was completed earlier, Reuters said.
“Maintenance at West Azeri is over six days earlier than planned and production has been resumed,” Tamam Bayatly, a spokeswoman for BP Azerbaijan was quoted by the news wire as saying.
Bayatly reportedly said production had restarted last Saturday.
BP was unavailable for immediate comment when contacted by Upstream.
According to reports last week, BP was planning to suspend a platform at the Chirag field, the oldest production facility in the BP-operated Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) field cluster for maintenance in two months.
However, the duration for the maintenance work at Chirag was not specified.
Daily oil production from ACG is forecast by the operator to average 605,000 barrels per day this year.
West Azeri, located 100 kilometres off Baku in a water depth of 120 metres, produced an average of 149,300 barrels per day last year.
Azerbaijan’s oil and condensate production increased slightly in the first quarter to 10.6 million tonnes (83.7 million barrels) from 10.4 million tonnes (82.1 million barrels) a year ago, driven mainly by rising ACG crude output.
