BP shuts production at Skarv field

03 October 2014, News Wires – BP is reported to have shut in oil production at its Skarv field in the Norwegian Sea due to a technical issue, with gas output also hit.

A spokesman for the UK supermajor told Reuters output is down due to ongoing repairs to a riser valve for gas injection, adding: “Start-up of oil production is expected within this month.”

The field’s floating production, storage and offloading vessel produced around 70,000 barrels of oil per day in August – the latest month for which figures are available – with Skarv among Norway’s top producing fields.

Gas output from the field has also been hit by process problems, resulting in an outage of 10.9 million cubic metres per day that is expected to last until 8 November, according to the country’s gas network operator Gassco.

Skarv is operated by BP with 23.84%, with partners Statoil (36.17%), E.ON E&P (28.08%) and PGNiG (11.92%).
