03 June 2015, News Wires – BP is planning to suspend operations at its Chirag platform in the Caspian Sea off Azerbaijan for planned maintenance, according to a report.
A source at Azeri state oil company Socar told Reuters that BP plans to “stop Chirag within two months”.
However, the duration for the maintenance work at Chirag was not specified.
BP did not immediately comment when contacted by Upstream.
The British supermajor halted output at the end of May at its West Azeri platform for a 22-day planned maintenance and said at the time that an “unspecified platform” would follow.
Chirag, located kilometres off Baku in a water depth of 120 metres, is part of the BP-operated Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field cluster and produced an average of 149,300 barrels per day last year.
