21 April 2016, Abuja – President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to implement the past oil and gas audits recommendations in order to sanitise the sector.
The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NNGI) and Nigeria Natural Resource Charter (NNRC) made the call yesterday at the Policy Dialogue on the implementation of the recommendations of the past oil sector investigative reports in Nigeria.
Chairman of the dialogue, Professor Assisi Asobie, said the need to urgently implement the recommendations is paramount in order to end the re-occurrence of the many fraudulent activities in the sector.
According to them, 21 oil firms made fraudulent claims for petrol subsidy and have been indicted by the Presidential Committee called Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede committee, set up on the 2011 fuel subsidy scheme. The committee asked the indicted firms to refund N382 billion, but nothing has been done.
Another N302 billion which the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency paid itself under the Petroleum Support Fund (PSF) scheme for 2009 and 2010 as administrative charges were not recovered yet.
