19 December 2013 – Oslo-listed rig contractor Fred Olsen Energy has secured a charter with US giant Chevron to deploy its semi-submersible Blackford Dolphin for work in the UK sector.
The rig is set to start work in the second quarter of 2015 under the 572-day contract with a total value of $255 million – including a $11 million upgrade of the unit – that yields a dayrate of around $446,000.
Chevron said it intends to use the rig to carry out a multi-well drilling and completion programme across several of its UK fields.
The company also has an option to extend the deal for a further period of between 300 and 700 days.
