Lagos — Congo Republic is set to become one of Africa’s top crude oil producer, as a new oil discovery could produce nearly 1 million barrels of oil per day.
Italy’s ENI and France’s Total had raised the country’s output to about 350,000 barrels per day.
The new field holds 1 billion cubic metres of hydrocarbons, including 359 million barrels of oil, with a potential for a daily output of 983,000 barrels, and is being developed by SARPD-OIL in la Cuvette region.
Production could begin in six months, and if discovery ramps up, would be close to Nigeria’s current production of about 1.8 million barrels a day, and Angola’s 1.4 million barrels per day.
