25 October 2014, Abuja – The kidnap of a septuagenarian, Madam Osiya Agamah, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has sparked a controversy as the police have not been able to confirm if the victim is related to Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke.
Madam Agamah was said to have been kidnapped at about 9.30pm on Tuesday by a group of unknown gunmen on her way back from an evening church service.
Described as an aunt to Diezani Allison-Madueke, the kidnap victim, according to sources, was whisked away at Leventis Bus-stop on Aba-Port Harcourt Road.
It was gathered that the woman was forced into a waiting vehicle by her captors, who immediately sped off to a yet to be identified destination.
While no contact has been established with the family of the septuagenarian, the police insisted that they had yet to ascertain if Agamah was related to the minister.
Speaking with Saturday PUNCH on Friday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, explained that the only information at the disposal of the command was the release of the immediate past president of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Mohammad specifically said that he was not aware that a relative to the minister was abducted, saying, “I am only aware of the abduction of a woman on Tuesday at about 9pm at around Leventis Bus-stop.”
