Port Harcourt — The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, has launched a USSD Code for bill payment, in a bid to ease the payment of electricity bill by customers across Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River States.

Under the USSD code, *347*008#, according to the Disco, PHED customers will get cash tokens on every purchase, and they stand the chance of wining an instant cashback of between N5,000 and N100million.

Speaking, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PHED, Dr. Henry Ajagbawa, said under the USSD code electricity bill payment, customers will have the convenience of paying their bills anywhere, anytime and at their own convenience.

Ajagbawa represented by the General Manager, Services, Ochuko Amah, said the USSD code electricity bill payment will help to curtail fraud in bill collection, as customers can now pay bill with just a tap on their phone, adding that the service was available to both prepaid and postpaid customers.

He added that the innovation was in conjunction with EasyPay International, is aimed at expanding her collection network with a view to serving customers better, taking into cognizance the cutting edge technology used for operations by the collection agent.

“We have a commitment to light up Port Harcourt in the next 12 months and spread the same drive to the other 3 states where we have our presence.

“To keep our promise, we want to ensure that every house hold and company finds it easy to connect to this energy with ease, that is why our agent Easypay has come up with pay and get paid program. With this system of payment in place, we are determined to give value for your money by enhancing the payment method.

“We hope to come up with many more, but be assured that we would not rest until we get this city and our other 3 zones where we have presence well lit upon the next 12 months.

“Yet another innovation from PHED to turn around the company and ensure we become the number 1 electricity distribution company in Nigeria.

“We are therefore, poised to conquer constraints by way of distance, time and money. Our new payment channel makes it easy to pay and you even get paid for paying via the USSD channel.

“Payment of electricity bill promptly would not only sustain PHED in network expansion, statutory obligations, prompt network maintenance but also boost the entire power industry.”

Also speaking, the representative of EasyPay International, Omonedo Lucky, said the USSD code electricity bill payment was aimed at encouraging seamless payment of electricity bill by electricity users within our franchise area using mobile phones.
