18 December 2011, Sweetcrude, UGHELLI- CHIEF Executive Officer of the Ughelli Power PLC, Delta State, Engr Ademola Adeniyi, has said the power station would contribute at least 450 mega watts to the national by the end of the first quarter of 2012.

Adeniyi, who stated this during the facility tour of the power station by members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, said the station could generate 550 mega watts of electricity by the end of next year, if adequate funding and modern spare parts for maintenance of its equipment were provided.

Speaking on the maintenance and recovery plans of the station, he disclosed that assessment and provision of all that was needed for the attainment of improved power generation from the plant were in progress.

Holding that the station was one of the oldest and biggest in the country, he said the power station was not being used in full capacity due to inadequate funding, obsolete spare parts and insufficient gas supply.

Adeniyi said the security situation in the country which had also hindered major maintenance plans of the plant were now under control, adding that rehabilitation of the GT16 awarded in 2006 had to be delayed till 2007. He said the maintenance of the Hot Gas Path Inspection (HGPI) of Delta ll and lll unit awarded in 2006 commenced only this year.

Speaking further, the CEO commended host communities of the oldest power plant whose indigenes, according to him, constituted the major work force of the company for their support and co-operation.
