21 July 2012, Sweetcrude, ABUJA – THE Nigerian Army says the deployment of soldiers to the corporate headquarters of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, was a ‘routine’ exercise.

Col. John Agim, Chief of Staff at the Directorate of the Army Public Relations, made the clarification in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

He said that deployment of soldiers at the premises of the PHCN was normal, adding that the soldiers were not sent to dislodge the staff of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

Agim explained that the soldiers were directed to ensure that the workers signed before they could be allowed into the premises.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, has expressed concern over the presence of the Army at the PHCN’S headquarters.

Mr. Wilson Nwanchukwu, Chairman of the FCT branch of the union, expressed the concern while addressing journalists on the development.

He claimed that the soldiers prevented workers from moving freely into their offices.
