Omovie who gave the assurance when he led the committee members on a visit to the Commission’s office in Warri, said the amendment was geared towards making DESOPADEC more proactive and cost effective.

The lawmaker said that the committee was aware of the anxiety in several quarters, particularly from major stakeholders on the amendment, hence the scheduled public hearing for tomorrow for inputs from Deltans and interest groups.

Omovie noted that the varied reactions across the state over the amendment was due to the pivotal role of DESOPADEC in the growth and development of the state, saying that any move to make the commission work for better should be encouraged.

He maintained that repositioning DESOPADEC to allow for the dividends of democracy to get to the people was a step in the right direction and expressed happiness over the robust suggestions and contributions by the management of the commission.

Omovie said the ad-hoc committee in the course of its assignment would most likely visit the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC headquarters in Port-Harcourt to understudy the Act establishing it in order to get the best for Delta State.
