06 February 2012, Sweetcrude, UGHELLI – THE Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has donated branded note books to Secondary School students in Isoko North and South Local Government Areas of the State as part of its contribution to the advancement of education in the State,
Presenting the books, the commissioner representing Isoko ethnic nationality on the board of the commission, Mr Joseph Ogeh, told the students to take advantage of facilities being provided by the government to acquire higher education.
Ogeh, who was represented by his Special Assistant, Mr Jonathan Umukoro urged the students to secure the future of the Isoko people through education, adding that the gesture was to encourage reading and writing amongst students in the area.
According to the commissioner, the gesture was a little token of greater things to come from DESOPADEC, appealing to teachers and students of various schools to take proper care of the infrastructural facilities on ground so that they were not vandalized.
Calling on the teachers to put in their best in teaching the students, he said the future of the students was dependent on what they were being taught in school. He added; “the teachers are in a better position to guide the students”
Receiving the items, permanent Secretary, Post Primary Education Board, PPEB, Oleh Zone, Mrs Ozomaro commended Mr Joseph Ogeh and the commission for the gesture, noting that the commissioner was committed to improve the standard of education in Isoko land.
Head girl of St. Michael’s College, Oleh princess Odezi Brodericks, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked the commissioner for the donation and assured that the books would be put to proper use.
