Port Harcourt — The average retail price of Automotive Gas Oil, AGO, also known as diesel, fell by 2.57 per cent year-on-year to N1,409.61 per litre in November 2025, offering marginal relief to businesses and households dependent on diesel-powered operations.
Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, showed that the November 2025 price was lower than the N1,446.83 per litre recorded in the corresponding period of November 2024.
However, the relief was partly offset by a month-on-month increase, as diesel prices rose by 0.79 per cent from N1,398.57 per litre in October 2025 to N1,409.61 in November.
State-by-state analysis revealed significant price disparities across the country. Niger State recorded the highest average retail price at N1,477.57 per litre, followed closely by Jigawa State at N1,477.31 and Enugu State at N1,468.29.
In contrast, Kebbi State recorded the lowest average diesel price at N1,308.94 per litre. Katsina State followed at N1,315.78, while Nasarawa State recorded N1,325.29, making them the three cheapest states for diesel purchases in November.
Zonal analysis further showed uneven pricing patterns nationwide. The South East emerged as the most expensive zone, with an average price of N1,419.34 per litre, while the South South recorded the lowest zonal average at N1,400.58.
Diesel remains a critical energy source for industries, transport operators, small businesses, and households amid ongoing power supply challenges, making price movements closely watched across the economy.
