    DisCos issue 123,604 prepaid meters in Q1 2024

    Port Harcourt — All the 12 electricity distribution companies in Nigeria collectively metered only 123,604 customers across the country in the first quarter of 2024, representing 11.1percent increment from the 111,225 metered in Q4 2023.

    Data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, showed that the total number of metered customers stood at 5,989,727 in Q1 2024 which is 2.52% increase from 5,842,726 in Q4 2023.

    Similarly, total registered electricity customers has risen to 13,372,524 in Q1 2024 which is 1.60% increase from 13,162,572 in Q4 2023.

    While Ibadan disco, IBEDC has the highest number of metered customers standing at 1,074,000 which is 43% of its 2,471,000 registered customers; followed by Ikeja Disco, IBEDC, which has installed 920,000 meters which 73% of its 1,257,000 registered customers.

    Aba Power has installed only 62,000 meters to its 194,000 registered customers, followed by Yola Disco, YEDC which has metered only 127,000 customers from its 817,000 customers.

    Meanwhile IBEDC and IKEDC installed the highest number of prepaid electricity meters in Q1 2024, which is 26,000 meters each, while KEDC and YEDC installed the least number of meters in the period under review.

    Revenue collected by the Electricity Discos during the period was N291.62billion representing a 1.13percent decline from N294.95 billion in Q4 2023.
