23 October 2015, Jos—The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, in Plateau State has urged consumers of petroleum products in the state not to condone corrupt practices but report any outlet selling the products above government regulated prices.
DPR’s Controller of Operations in the state, Mr. Douglas Bekas, solicited the support of members of the public, the Police and the media in ridding the state of fraudulent filling stations that involve in sharp practices.
Speaking yesterday with journalists in Jos, the Controller of Operation said the DPR had recorded monumental achievements in the enforcement of the Federal Government’s rules that no marketer should sell above government regulated price of N87 per litre for PMS and N50 per litre for kerosene.
“The Department is also ensuring that products are available in a large quantity and good quality because the desire of the DPR is to ensure that every marketer operates according to the rules but the desire would be achieved if other stakeholders in the state collaborate and report fraudulent activities to the DPR,’’ Bekas said.
It will be recalled that recently, the DPR went on checks around the state to monitor the activities of racketeers and ensure that marketers did not cheat on unsuspecting customers.
During the raid, he explained that any marketer caught racketeering was punished and forced to reverse to the government price.
“Sanctions were issued to them and they paid to DPR the fine of N100,000. 00 for selling above government price,’’ Bekas said.
