20 February 2018, Sweetcrude, Port Harcourt — There was drama at the Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt on Monday as an Ogoni group seeking justice against the execution of late Environmentalist, Ken Saro Wiwa, and eight other Ogoni sons, took a spirited protest to the court premises over failure of the matter to be heard.
The Ken Saro-Wiwa Associates, KSA, said the demonstration was necessitated by the disappearance of the matter which the court had scheduled to be heard today.
Speaking, the National Coordinator of KSA, Chief Gani Topba, alleged that the disappearance of the matter from suits scheduled for the day was aimed at denying Ken Saro-Wiwa and the other eight Ogoni leaders justice.
Topba alleged that were ploys to deny Ogoni justice in the matter, maintaining that the nine Ogoni sons were executed late General Sani Abacha, unjustly and unlawfully.
According to him, “We decided to protest because we came here today only to find out that the matter that was scheduled to be heard today, has been removed from the list of matters to be heard today.
“We are seeking the court to declare that Ken Saro-Wiwa and the other eight persons were killed unjustly but the court is trying to deny us justice.”
It will be recalled that the group had appealed the ruling of a Port Harcourt Federal High which had struck out their prayer, demanding that Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni martyrs be declared innocent on technical ground.
