07 April 2014, Cairo – Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker has announced a programme for adding 13,000 megawatts to the unified electricity grid via coal from now and to 2027.
Egypt’s first coal-fired power station will come on stream by 2022.
This comes after the Cabinet approved use of coal for electricity production. Shaker noted that the electricity ministry has selected three locations for establishment of the first coal-using electricity generating station.
