Port Harcourt — Electrical fire has destroyed houses and valuables worth billions of Naira at a residential property in Eliopranwo axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
While no life has been lost, eyewitnesses said the fire started as a result of electrical surge from an electronic appliance in a room within a residential estate in the area.
One of the victims of the fire incident, Meshack Chukwu, said he was at his place of work when he got a call, but before he could get home, all his properties had been razed by the fire except a prayer rosary.
Speaking while inspecting the scene of the fire incident, Rivers State Commissioner for Special Duties Mr. Ndubusi Okere, cautioned residents of the State on the use of electrical appliances both at home and offices.
Okere charged people to ensure that all electrical gadgets are always put off when not in use, especially before they leave their home or offices to forestall any form of fire outbreak.
While thanking God that no life was lost, he commended operatives of the Federal Fire Service who promptly answered to the distress call to put out the fire.
For his part, the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Barr. George Ariolu, who described the event as unfortunate, advocated for the sensitization of residents of the state in order to avert future fire incidents.
